Managing Psoriasis Naturally
As a person who has lived with psoriasis (at times severe) for twenty-three years, and has consequently developed psoriatic arthritis, I can readily sympathize with anyone plagued with this unfortunate condition. I would like to state up front that I am not trying to sell anything, but to simply offer first-hand experience that may provide some measure of assistance to people with psoriasis. I also make absolutely no medical claims nor do I hold any medical degrees. I simply believe that treating your body in the safest, most natural way is of utmost importance and because the things I am about to reveal have helped me I feel better, hopefully they will be of help to others.
I believe the first thing one needs to recognize about psoriasis it that while making the skin look and feel truly “awful”, psoriasis is not really a “skin condition”. The scaly plaques that develop on the skin are reactions to deeper conditions within the body. The body is either producing too much toxicity or unable to properly eliminate the toxins within itself. This “toxic overload” results in the largest organ of the body, the skin, being affected, at times very severely. When psoriasis is in remission ones skin is completely normal. As I suffer from a plaque-type of psoriasis, I have been told by doctors that my skin is actually growing up to nineteen times too fast and not giving dead skin time to naturally exfoliate itself before being layered with more skin. The result is horrifically itchy, ugly scales that, when scratched, spread quite quickly.
Main stream medicine offers no cure for psoriasis, nor do they pinpoint specific internal causes, that when reconciled will control the disorder. The treatments available are “double-edged”, meaning both good and bad. Some treatments require your liver to be monitored regularly, others like the UV light treatments subject the body to high intensity rays easily causing burns, and the medicated creams contain steroids that thin the skin and over time offer areas of increased susceptibility to the condition. The creams do work to a certain extent and at first seem almost magical for minor, localized lesions, but over time and depending on how severe and wide-spread the condition, they become less and less effective. I have personally tried many of the creams, the UV light treatments, coal-tar baths and sauna suits with varying results, mostly unsatisfactory. This is not to mention the cost. The cream I use (sparingly now) would cost me about $140.00 Canadian to purchase one tube if I did not have a health plan.
So, pretty bleak right? Well, not actually. Throw out mainstream medicine and medications? Of course not! While I no longer partake in any mainstream psoriasis regimen, it is simply because I no longer require it, and do I still use a medicated psoriasis cream, but now very sparingly only. The answer for me, while not magic or 100% effective, I will refer to as a change of “lifestyle mindset”. If you could prepare your body to effectively eliminate almost all of your psoriasis at little or no extra cost to you, would you do it? If the changes were all healthy, safe and natural, would it make it easier and less stressful for you? If you even think yes is your answer I hope you will read the follow up articles which are the simple things I did that dramatically helped me and continue to do so. Wishing you all comfort and relief.
